Export as PDF — phone signal can be patchy around the Haram. Keep a printed copy for rituals and packing checks.

Pro tip:Enter Ihram at the Miqat — not before. If you fly into Jeddah, most packages arrange Ihram on the plane or at the airport Miqat. Wearing Ihram too early invalidates nothing, but you must observe all Ihram restrictions from the moment you enter the state until you complete your Umrah.

What's included in this checklist

This umrah checklist for men is structured across 7 sections — giving you clear priorities at each stage without being overwhelmed by a single massive list. Here's what each section covers:

Planning & Booking

Start here 4–8 weeks before travel. Umrah visas, flights, and hotel rooms near the Haram fill up quickly — especially during Ramadan, school holidays, and the December break.

Documents & Finances

Missing documents can delay your entry or visa processing. Gather everything early and keep physical and digital backups.

Ihram & Clothing

Men's Ihram is two white unstitched sheets. Pack extras — you will wear Ihram for the journey and may need a fresh set. Regular modest clothing is for before and after Umrah.

Health & Hygiene

Umrah involves long walks on marble floors in heat. Prepare your health kit in advance and consult your doctor if you have chronic conditions.

Spiritual Preparation

Physical readiness matters, but spiritual preparation transforms the journey. Study the rituals and renew your intention before you depart.

Umrah Rituals (Step by Step)

Tick off each ritual as you complete it. Men perform Idtiba (right shoulder uncovered) and Ramal (brisk walk) during the first three circuits of Tawaf.

In Makkah & Madinah

Beyond the core Umrah rituals — visits, prayers, and practical items for your stay in the holy cities.

Frequently asked questions

Men should pack: two sets of Ihram garments (white unstitched cloth), Ihram belt or safety pins, comfortable sandals that leave the ankle bones exposed, modest regular clothing for before and after Umrah, passport and visa documents, prescribed medicines, unscented toiletries (required while in Ihram), a lightweight prayer mat, pocket Quran, and dua book. Avoid cologne, stitched upper garments, and anything with fragrance while in the state of Ihram.
Men must enter Ihram at the designated Miqat — the boundary point before Makkah. If travelling by air, most pilgrims enter Ihram on the flight (announced before crossing the Miqat) or at the airport. You cannot pass the Miqat without being in Ihram. Make your intention (niyyah) and recite the Talbiyah once you have changed into Ihram garments.
While in Ihram, men must not: wear stitched or fitted clothing on the upper body (only the two Ihram sheets), cover the head with a fitted cap or turban (an umbrella is permitted), wear socks or shoes that cover the ankle bones, use perfume or scented products, cut hair or nails, hunt, or engage in marital relations. These restrictions apply from entering Ihram until you complete your Umrah and shave or trim your hair.
Umrah consists of four main acts: (1) Enter Ihram at the Miqat with intention and Talbiyah. (2) Perform Tawaf — seven circuits around the Kaaba, starting and ending at the Black Stone, with Idtiba (exposing the right shoulder) and Ramal (brisk walking in the first three circuits) for men. (3) Perform Sa'i — seven walks between Safa and Marwah. (4) Shave the head (Halq) or trim the hair (Taqsir) to exit Ihram. This template includes a dedicated rituals section to tick off each step.
